Spring Cooking Classes with Chef Arran

This spring refine your culinary skills with Chef Arran, just in time for harvests from the farmers market and our bountiful gardens. Tuesday, May 4th a new 10 week Cooking Class Series will start at the Mountain View Commons. Thanks to the YMCA we are able to offer Chef Arran’s cooking classes at a very affordable price of $25/class or $20/class for the entire series. You may attend individual classes or take them all.

For registration and questions call Chef Arran at 360-379-2647 or email avschef@yahoo.com

Here are some of the other possible classes and projects we are involved in.

Class Series for Adults - We periodically offer cooking classes for the public as a class series. Our teaching style is focused on cooking methods. You might learn a few recipes, but more importantly you’ll learn the skills to apply to, or develop your own recipes. At the start of 2009 a 5 part course was offered covering: Roots, Legumes, Grains, Poultry, and Fish. This series was geared to both the beginning cook and the more experienced cook who wants to sharpen their skills. Generally classes can be purchased singly or as a full series at a discounted price. Check our contact page for current and future class series.

Cooking for Children - Chef Arran has a passion for teaching young people cooking skills. He learned under a classical apprenticeship right out of high school under French and German Master Chefs and feels strongly about passing on that mentorship opportunity. Arran has taught cooking classes the last full school year for the Port Townsend High School and the Independent Community Education (ICE) program. He hopes to make this available as an ongoing curriculum for youth in Port Townsend. Cooking is a classic “trade” which can become a career or a good job to pay a young person’s way through college. In Port Townsend access to skilled kitchen labor is a struggle for all food businesses. Training local youth offers job opportunities and supports our growing local food industry. Contact us for more information.

Farmer's Market Demonstrations - Every other Saturday at 10:15 and 12:15 at the Port Townsend Farmer's Market chef Arran demonstrates cooking with what's currently available in the market. See the Market Web site for schedule and details.

Private classes - We can arrange private cooking classes for individuals or groups either in a home or at the restaurant. This can be a great fun event for a party, a team building exercise for groups, or a special gift for that foodie who is happiest in the kitchen or who always wondered what it would be like to work in a restaurant for a day. Come to us with your ideas and we can see what we can put together.
